COURSE DESCRIPTION:
The rising cost of health care and the current government position on promoting healthy living acknowledges the older population is an expanding market in terms of supporting and delivering exercise for health that will help improve and maintain a good quality of life in later years. If the older population can be encouraged and supported to exercise and be physically active, noting all the physiological and psychological benefits this provides, it could reduce the demand on health and social care and ensure a better quality of life for longer.

This course will look at current research evidence relating to exercise and the older population. It will also review age-related physiological and psychological changes and common conditions, and how these affect movement and exercise in this client group. This should give you a foundational understanding on which to base decisions when considering the development and delivery of an exercise or movement programme for this population.
The practical element delivered via a face-to-face workshop and web content will give set class structures for aerobic and muscular strength and endurance sessions, as well as a library of exercises which you can insert into your class or use to substitute different parts of your class to vary the content whenever required. The classes have been designed to be used with the 'Fit Over' series of CDs provided by MOVE YA! and available from JUMPYBUMPY.
*CPD points are only available to those that have the older adults qualification.
